EYIT wins Kampala Analytica’s AI Civic Hackathon and Bootcamp

Empower Youth in Technology (EYIT) emerged as the winner of the Civic Hackathon and Bootcamp: AI for Grassroots Impact, held from January 16 to 18, 2025, in Bukoto, Kampala. Organized by Kampala Analytica and hosted by StartHub Africa, the event aimed to explore the potential of AI in solving grassroots challenges. EYIT’s innovative “EYIT Media App” impressed judges with its focus on empowering communities through AI-driven tools for content creation, social accountability, and communication. Their victory secured them a €10,000 grant to implement their vision.

Facilitators, including Victor Muwonge Semaganda and Morine Amutorine, provided practical guidance on ideation, prototyping, and pitching. Tassilo von Droste of GIZ Uganda delivered the keynote, emphasizing AI’s role in fostering civic innovation and social accountability.

The event featured five teams presenting impactful solutions. Alongside EYIT, Girl Potential Care Centre and APEX Tech Solutions received €10,000 in grants for their AI-driven projects. The hackathon highlighted the importance of collaboration, skill development, and creativity in addressing local challenges.

Supported by Kampala Analytica, GIZ, StartHub Africa, and the European Union, the event underscored a shared commitment to advancing grassroots innovation through technology.
