For the past four years working with Empower Youth in Technology (EYIT), I have dedicated myself to nurturing and empowering young talent in media technologies. One of the most important initiatives I have championed during this time is the Digital Media Academy, which is close to my heart. I believe deeply in the idea that “a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle,” and this philosophy drives my passion for training and mentorship.
As part of this mission, I have prioritized visiting universities and institutions throughout Mbarara. Over the years, I have been privileged to visit more than 10 educational institutions, mentoring and training students especially those pursuing journalism and IT programs. Seeing the enthusiasm and growth in these young minds has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. I am particularly excited about the 2025 cohorts, which will offer a fresh opportunity to build the capacity of more than 20 young people by equipping them with vital digital media skills.
The Digital Media Academy 2025 is designed to provide an immersive learning experience that goes beyond conventional education. Participants will learn from industry experts and gain practical, hands-on training in a variety of key areas. These include TV production, where students will master live streaming and video editing with professional tools like OBS and VMIX; photography and videography and graphic design, helping students create visually compelling content. Additionally, they will develop expertise in video and audio production to create high-quality videos and podcasts that resonate with audiences. A highlight of this year’s academy will be training in AI for digital content creation, preparing participants to harness new technologies and enhance their creative work.
Our program is not only about technical training; it also offers unique opportunities to build connections through the Digital Communication Workshop. This workshop will bring together experienced TV and radio broadcasters, digital marketers, and other media professionals to share their insights. It’s a chance for participants to engage, learn, and build networks that can launch their careers to the next level.
I am passionate about not just teaching skills, but also fostering the confidence and readiness that young people need to thrive in a competitive industry. The Digital Media Academy is built on expert mentorship, real-world projects, and the use of industry-standard tools, ensuring that our students are equipped for success in today’s fast-paced media landscape.
Applications for the Digital Media Academy 2025 are now open. This is your chance to be part of a program that will challenge and inspire you to create, innovate, and build a career in digital media. Join us on this journey, and let’s shape the future of digital media together.
